December 17th, the last day for 2009

Just got word from the recreation people at Garrett gymasium, that December 17th will be the last day for badminton this year. Yeah its sad, but it has been good to be able to play some this year.

As it is every year, basketball season is about to start and they will be closing the gym for only paying rentees(basically the Tuesday(ping pong) and Thursday(karate)). Unless we get some funding or I win the lottery, we will not be able to play until after the season in March or April. I'll keep you all updated as best I can.

On a side note, I'll have not been successful in Tuesday's at May Park yet because of difficulty with supplies and the gym flooring. Although if your in the Georgia school system(MCG, ASU, etc.), they have badminton on Tuesday over at the Christ. B. Gym on Jackson rd. All you need is your school ID and your in. Comment/email if you know of places to play.

Keep on exercising and have a wonderful holiday season, everyone!

Time correction for Thursdays.

I just changed the time on the right side of the blog, from the previous 6:00pm to 8:30pm to 6:30 to 8:30pm. There is a two hour limit on all activities at the gym. Sorry folks, my mistake.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get everything together by the end of this month, to get Tuesday nights started. I need to purchase the tape and some badminton nets. The poles/stands, I might need to borrow from the Thursday nights, until I can get them made. If you can help, send me an email.

Tuesday nights, let make this happen!

I've got some very good news. Thanks to my man, David for making this additional time slot for badminton possible. Tuesdays at 6PM to 8:45PM will be a reality after all the things needed for the game are gathered and set.

We are looking for the materials to setup three badminton full single/double courts(plus one half court on the side) in the May Park gym downtown. As of now there is one properly marked court but it is in the center of the area. It blocks the setup of additional, and makes it un-ergonomic(if that's a word). Technically, anyone can come in and play, even with the absence of net.

So far I've got some poles for stands for the nets from Massoud. (Thank you Massoud!)

I'm in dire need of 3 badminton nets, and tape would be nice bonus too. The tape would be used to make the boundary lines on the wooden court. Something bright(like red or yellow, if possible) so that it can be easily distinguishable. I first thought about using electrical tape but compared to the tape used at Garrett gym, it is not as wide(twice the width) or colored(black). Painting or permanent marking on the floor is not an option because of gym rules. Anyone have any suggestions? Tape recommendations?

:Needed:
-3x badminton nets
-4x poles/stands +weight/support
-markers/tape (200+ ft.)
--extra racquets&birdies are always nice

This is going to be fantastic. An extra day of badminton. Yaaayy!

Its being here for a while

I've been playing badminton here for years, ever since middle school and love it. It is a bit secluded and not many know about its existence. Why not have more fun and prosperity by letting others know about this wonderful place of birdies and blue rubber.

There really isn't a leader or manager or person who is in charge of this badminton club in Augusta, Georgia, but in my belief to continue expansion and survival of this great sport in this warm city, I decided it would be a good idea to have some kind of base for information and contact so others can learn about us.

As time permits, I'll post pictures, information, and other updates on this blog to enhance the knowledge and presence of this club. If anyone has any questions/concerns/ideas/jokes/anything, feel free to email me at : augusta.ga.badminton at gmail dot com.

When: Thursday nights at 6:00PM to 8:30PM
Where: Garrett Gymnasium on Eisenhower Dr. off of Washington Rd. and the Augusta National Golf Course. Exact address for your GPS: 1100 Eisenhower Dr. / phone number:(706) 821-1775
What you need: Admissions is free(thanks to our tax dollars).

You'll need your own racquet and birdies(feather/plastic, your discretion). If you don't have these, me or someone may be able to lend you one for a game or two. Please let us know in advance.

Preferable non-marking rubber sole shoes on the lovely rubber flooring. Sneakers/tennis shoes are fine. Barefoot playing really hurts after a little bit.

There are different levels of players here, from good to new. There are 3 courts with lines for single/doubles play. Majority of the time is spent with doubles' play because of the amt. of people we have.

There will hopefully soon be a Tuesday nights of badminton also, but I am in need of some supplies to make it happen.(more on this in the upcoming posts)

Wooohoooo! Let's play some badminton! (At least on Thursday's, and soon to be Tuesday's, anyways.)
